KEYSER - Mineral County has suspended all athletic and extracurricular activities through Aug. 7 due to two students having tested positive for COVID-19, according to superintendent of schools Troy Ravenscroft.
In an announcement made Tuesday night on his Facebook page, Ravenscroft said some additional students have also been tested, but have not yet received their results.
“Exercising an abundance of caution, we are pausing all athletic and curricular activities countywide,” he said.
Ravenscroft said the Mineral County Health Department is working to notify those who might have had close contract with the students.
According to the health department, Mineral County’s total positives since March are now up to 83, with 15 of those being currently active cases.
That represents a jump of 12 positives since Friday.
Ravenscroft said county staff would “re-evaluate current conditions” during the week of Aug. 3 to determine the status of future activities.
