Mineral County reports second COVID death

KEYSER - Mineral County has had its second death related to COVID-19.
“It is with the utmost sadness that the Mineral County Health Department is reporting that it has received notification of the second COVID-19 related death in Mineral County,” administrator A.Jay Root said Thursday in a press release.
“Our community member was a 50-year-old male and had been hospitalized. During his isolation and hospitalization, the health department worked to identify any potential persons who may have had close contact with the individual, including family members, friends, co-workers and health care professionals.
“The Mineral County Health Department would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
Notice of the death came just one day after the free COVID-19 testing conducted at Frankfort High School in which 235 individuals were tested.
Results from those tests are expected in two to four days.
That was the third day of community testing hosted by the health department In Mineral County. The first was held May 29 in Piedmont and the second on May 30 in Keyser. A total of 514 people were tested, and only two positives were received.
Mineral County’s total for positive COVID cases is now 49, with 40 of those having recovered.
