FORT ASHBY - Although the Mineral County Fair has been cancelled, there are still two important aspects of the annual event which will continue in the spirit of the “new normal.”

The fair was originally scheduled for the week of June 15, but was cancelled due to ongoing restrictions and concerns from the COVID-19 pandemic.

For four days at the end of this week, however, those who missed out on satisfying their cravings for fair food will have the chance to indulge their tastebuds when the Fort Ashby Volunteer Fire Department hosts the first-ever “Fair Food Takeout” event.

Starting Thursday, June 25, and running through Sunday, June 28, concessions from the amusement company that normally sets up at the fair will be set up in the area of the horse arena at the fairgrounds, offering such fair food delights as cotton candy, funnel cakes, candy and carmel apples, Italian sausage, fresh squeezed lemonade, and more.

Food will be available for takeout only and the concessions will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The concessions will be operated by contractors from the amusement company, and proceeds will benefit the Fort Ashby VFD.

For additional information, visit the fair’s Facebook page or call 304-298-3712.

In addition to the food event, members of the Mineral County Livestock Association are working with 4-H and FFA exhibitors to hold an online sale in place of the regular livestock auction at the fair.

The sale will run July 10-11 and anyone interested in bidding on beef, lambs, goats or hogs should log in to sconlinesales.com and register.

For further information or assistance in signing up, call the Mineral County Extension Office at 304-788-3621.
