SHORT GAP--Frankfort withstood a solid challenge from Winchester’s Mountain View Christian Academy, with the Falcons conquering the Conquerors by a 57-51 final Friday night. Tyler Shanholtz led Frankfort with 21 points, while Garett Weaver scored nine of his eleven points in the second half to help lock down the win for the Falcons. Tyler Fincham was Mountain View’s only scorer in double figures, hitting five threes and finishing with 20 points.
The teams played evenly through the first quarter, with Frankfort holding a 13-11 advantage, and through the first part of the second quarter. After a dunk from Caleb Boden to put the Conquerors up 18-17, though, Frankfort regained their footing, holding Mountain View without a basket from the floor in the last three minutes to finish on an 8-1 run and take a 27-21 lead into the locker room. As the Falcons stretched their lead into double figures, up 39-28 after three quarters, the Conquerors began playing more aggressively, pressing on defense and getting the ball more to Fincham, whose threes were almost entirely from well past professional range. This helped to cut the lead to as little as four with 2:23 to go, but in the end the Falcons were successful enough at the line to keep ahead of Mountain View.
It was a tight game earlier but Frankfort’s JV rallied late, going on a 13-1 run to take a 40-30 win. Caleb Hare led the Falcons with 15 while Kooper Anderson scored 11 for the Conquerors. The game serves as a warmup for next Wednesday, when Frankfort hosts the Golden Tornado, looking to avenge their earlier loss at Keyser.
