Ernest Shannon Fertig

Keyser - Ernest Shannon Fertig, 66, of Jones Road, Keyser, WV, died Saturday, January 8, 2022 at the Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.

Born on December 14, 1955 in Keyser, WV, he was a son of the late Elmer and Virginia Alice (Dove) Fertig. He also was preceded in death by his birth father, Dick Martin; two brothers, Port and Elmer Fertig; an infant son, James Allen Fertig and a niece, Jacie Delawder.

Shannon was formerly employed with Glaze and Brothers Lumber Yard in Winchester, VA and as a land surveyor with Green Engineering in Burlington, WV. He also helped many farmers in the local community. An avid hunter and fisherman, Shannon loved spending time with his family and friends and would help anyone that was in need. He loved camping and riding his motorcycles with his nephew, Johnny Lewis, Jr. He was also the kind of person that would give deer meat, turkey and fish that he hunted and caught to provide for his friends and neighbors. He was a kind and loving person and will be missed by all who knew him.

Surviving is his stepfather, Chester Rhodes of Keyser; a brother, Andrew Fertig of Leesburg, VA; a sister, Virginia Fertig of Keyser; his former wife, Mary Johnson and her husband Mike of Gloucester, VA; five nephews, Johnny Lewis, Jr., Christopher Hines, Nathan Junkins, Derek Harris and Tyler Harris and a niece, Mary Mae Hines. Also surviving is a god daughter, Serenity Rose Johnson, a long time friend, Paul Corbin of Keyser and numerous, cousins.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Carroll Junkins officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Private interment will be at a later date.
