Steven Michael Meek

Keyser - Steven Michael Meek, 73, of Allegheny Street, Keyser, WV, died Tuesday, January 4, 2022 at UPMC Western Maryland, Cumberland, MD.

Born on May 1, 1948 in Cumberland, MD, he was a son of the late Harry Wilbur Henry Meek and Sarah Louise (Hershey) Meek McDonald. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Harry William Meek.

Mr. Meek was a 1966 graduate of Keyser High School and served in the United States Army Reserves. For most of his life, he was a self employed truck driver and a heavy equipment operator. He attended the Mt. Zion Church on Knobley Road, Keyser and was a member of Local # 453, Teamsters Union in Cumberland and Boyce-Houser Post # 41, American Legion in Keyser. Steve also was a volunteer for nine years in building the Keyser High School sports complex. He also was a sanctioned little league baseball volunteer, serving as an umpire from 2006 through 2018 in both Maryland District # 1 and West Virginia District # 6.

Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Darlene L. (Hartman) Meek; five children, Cynthia L. Hartman and husband Danny of Petersburg, WV, Michael S. Meek and wife Michelle of New Creek, WV, James Robert Curran of Burlington, WV, Melissa R. Lannon and husband Cheyenne of New Creek and Whitley B. Wright and husband Zach of Fort Ashby, WV; a brother, Ronald W. McDonald of Burlington; two sisters, Vicki L. Hartman and husband Sambo of Bunker Hill, WV and Gayle L. Kasmier and husband Kevin of Keyser; three grandchildren, Nick and Taylor Meek and Tyler Lannon and several step grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Saturday, January 8, 2022 from 3-5 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 5:00 p.m. with Pastor Jerry Eisenhour officiating. The service will be streamed live on the Smith Funeral Homes Facebook page beginning at 5:00 p.m.

Private interment will be in the Hartman Family Cemetery, Dry Run Road, Burlington.

The use of face masks is recommended while attending the visitation or service.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the American Lung Association, 55 W. Wacker Drive, Suite 1150 Chicago, IL 60601 or to the family at 49 Allegheny Street, Keyser, WV 26726.
