KEYSER - On Tuesday, in a cold, driving rain, cross-country student athletes from host Keyser and visiting Frankfort and Tucker County demonstrated yet again why they are s special breed of athletes.
While parents, spectators and media alike took cover under umbrellas and shelters, and wore sweatshirts and coats, the runners themselves, adorned in sleeveless shirts and running shorts, persevered through the elements.
The soggy, wet conditions did not dampen the enthusiasm of the participating harriers. When the final tallies were calculated, Frankfort dominated the competition, winning both the girls’ and boys’ portions of the meet.
In girls’ action, the Lady Falcons won with a team score of 17 and were followed by Tucker County in second place with a score of 55, and Keyser in third with a 67.  Frankfort took the first four positions and seven of the top 10 in grabbing the victory.
Frankfort freshman Addison Lease took the top prize with a time of 23:00.20, and was followed in second, third and fourth respectively by teammates Brooke Jacobs (23:23.72), Emily Smith (23:28:48), and Kat Burleson (23:39.47). Keyser’s Scarlet Cameron finished in fifth place with a time of 23:41.19.
In boys’ action, Frankfort won with a team score of 15 and were followed by Tucker County in second place with a score of 50. Keyser couldn’t tally a team score.  Frankfort took the first seven positions and eight of the top 10 in grabbing the victory.
