CUMBERLAND – County United Way has made the decision to cancel the annual Mineral County Day of Caring & Sharing, typically held in October.
Due to crowd restrictions related to the pandemic, as well as additional challenges, it was decided to forgo the event in 2020.
“This was not a decision that was made lightly and while we are disappointed, we know it is in the best interest of all to be cautious”, said Juli McCoy, executive director of County United Way.
As an alternative, United Way is encouraging virtual or remote caring and sharing acts during the week of Oct. 5 – 11 throughout the region. The virtual event can be joined on Facebook at County United Way and more information can be found at http://cuw.org/virtual-week-of-caring-sharing/.
The traditional event typically is host to nearly 200 volunteers, including high school students, business teams, and community members, all working during a dedicated time and day to improve the facades of public areas, and aid in the cleanup of grounds and interiors of local organizations, all sponsored by corporate gifts and County United Way.
A committee will begin planning for an in-person 2021 event. Anyone interested in joining these efforts is encouraged to contact the United Way office at 301-722-2700.
