KEYSER - Mineral County has reported its third COVID-19-related death.


According to the Mineral County Health Department, the latest fatality was a 73-year-old man who had been hospitalized.


"During his isolation and hospitalization, the health department worked to identify any potential persons who may have had close contact with the individual, including family members, friends, co-workers and health care professionals," said A.Jay Root, health department administrator.


"The Mineral County Health Department would like to extend our deepest sympathies to his family and friends."


Mineral County is currently at a total of 51 positive COVID-19 cases reported since the pandemic started. Of those, only two remain active.


The first two fatalities were a 74-year-old male and a 50-year-old male.


Statewide, the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources (DHHR) is reporting 153,393 total confirmatory laboratory results received for COVID-19, with 2,571 of those being positive cases.


There have been 90 COVID-related deaths statewide..
