KEYSER - The Mineral County Health Department has received confirmation of an employee testing positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Dawnview Center nursing home in Fort Ashby.
The employee is a resident of Allegany County.
The health department is working closely with the West Virginia DHHR Bureau for Public Health’s Division of Infectious Disease Epidemiology and the Allegany County Health Department to identify any potential persons who may have had close contact with the individual, including family members, friends, residents and health care professionals.
Because of the ease of spread in a long-term care setting and the severity of illness that occurs in residents with COVID-19, a single case of laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 in a long-term care facility is defined as an outbreak.
The testing is a result of Executive Order 27-20 set forth by Gov. Jim Justice on April 17. The facility has tested 54 residents and 103 employees in total. Lab results for 42 residents and 77 employees to date have come back negative with the one employee being positive.
Test results are still pending for 12 residents and 25 employees.
