KEYSER - The Mineral County Health Department has announced Mineral County has its first confirmed case of COVID-19.
Health department administrator A.Jay Root told the News Tribune that health officials are currently working on tracing any people the patient has come in contact with over the past few weeks.
He declined to give information about the patient, or whether the person is currently hospitalized or self-quarantining at home.
He urges county residents to continue practicing CDC-recommended practices of social distancing, washing hands, and staying at home to avoid spreading or contracting the virus.
“We ask that our community to continue to be vigilant with following the guidance from your health department and the CDC,” he said in a post on the health department’s Facebook page. “This includes following social distancing, washing hands for at least 20 seconds and covering your cough with your elbow or a tissue.
“If symptoms develop (dry cough, fever, and/or shortness of breath) contact your healthcare provider for instructions.
As a community, we ask that everyone keeps a level head. If we do, we will work through this.
“Our community is strong and has always taken care of its own. For more information on COVID-19, please visit our website at www.mineralcountyhealthdepartment.com. “
