KEYSER - The Young Writers Contest has been held in West Virginia since 1984.
Students compete in each of the following grade level categories : Grades 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12.  Entries are submitted from their individual schools to the county coordinator. 
Judging is held at the county level and first place winners from each category received a plaque and will receive a commemorative certificate and be treated to workshops with published authors/presenters on West Virginia Young Writers Day at the University of Charleston on May 8, 2020.  State winners will be selected and win cash awards.
Mineral County winners this year were: Jillian Deloughery, second grade, Burlington Primary School; Natalie Lynch, fourth grade, New Creek Primary School; Meghann Griffith, sixth grade, and Grace Scott, eighth grade, both from Frankfort Middle School, and Zoe Goddard, 11th grade, Keyser High School.
