RIDGELEY - Thanks to a tip from a concerned citizen, Mineral County law enforcement and animal control officers were able to rescue 15 dogs Tuesday from the Ridgeley area that were being kept in unsafe and inhumane conditions.
Most of the dogs were tied to trees and at least two were locked in an old truck trailer on the property. None of the canines had food, water or suitable shelter.
The concerned citizen, who had documented the conditions in photos and video, reported the situation to the News Tribune Tuesday morning, saying he suspected the dogs were being used for fighting.
The News Tribune, in turn, contacted the authorities and the dogs were removed from the property and are being cared for pending the outcome of an investigation.
Additional information on the condition of the dogs and whether they will be adoptable will be released as the story unfolds.
