SHORT GAP - At the request of local residents, the West Virginia State Police recently held a TASER demonstration in the parking lot of the Church Triumphant on Plum Run Road near Short Gap.
Residents from nearby housing subdivisions and apartments gathered to hear Corporal J. Whisner of the  West Virginia State Police Mineral County Detachment brief them on the use and effectiveness of a TASER for home protection.
The use of such devices is legal in West Virginia, and they provide a non-lethal alternative for those not comfortable with fire arms.
Chief Jake Ryan of the Ridgeley Police Department assisted Cpl. Whisner and gave local residents the benefit of his experience as well.
