The West Virginia University (WVU) Potomac State College Men’s Soccer team dropped a home match to Harford Community College 4-1 Saturday, Aug. 31, falling to 1-2 on the season.
The Owls of Harford took a one goal lead into halftime and increased the lead to 2-0 early in the second half before Potomac State’s Joel Romero connected on an assist from Luis Hernandez cutting the lead in half. Harford put the game out of reach with two late second-half tallies to conclude the scoring. Catamount Keeper Justin Barrett finished the day having faced seven shots on goal, recording three saves.
The PSC men returned to action on Tuesday, Sept. 3, and evened their record at 2-2 with a decisive 8-1 win at Westmoreland County Community College.
Alex Eiff opened a five goal first half for the Catamounts scoring unassisted in the 11th minute. The PSC scoring continued with Gustavo De Armas (Nick Ponceroff) connecting in the 18th minute, Ali Sohail (unassisted) in the 28th minute, Alex Eiff (Joel Romero) 38th minute and Logan Smith (Ponceroff) 42nd minute.
The Potomac State onslaught continued in the second half with Eiff polishing off a hat-trick on an unassisted goal in the 67th minute and from an Ethan Anderson feed in the 70th minute. Trevor Stuart concluded the PSC scoring for the day on an Anderson assist. Westmoreland CCC notched its lone goal as the second half elapsed. Justin Barrett finished the day facing 2 shots and recording one save in goal for the Catamounts.
The Potomac State Men’s Soccer team returns to action with a pair of upcoming home games on Saturday, Sept. 7, vs CCBC Catonsville at 3 p.m. and Saturday, Sept.14, vs Christendom College at 2 p.m.
Potomac State Women’s Soccer Falls to 0-2 on the season
Potomac State Women’s Soccer team lost to Howard Community College 12-1 on Thursday, Sept. 5, in Columbia, Maryland, dropping their season mark to 0-2. The Howard Dragons applied consistent offensive pressure scoring nine times in the first half and adding three second half goals. Taylor Layton scored the lone goal for the Catamounts unassisted at the 38:23 mark of the first half. Teresa Lambert came up with five saves and Kaliyah Kenny had three saves in goal for the Catamounts.
The Women’s Soccer team will play again Saturday, Sept. 7, at home against CCBC Catonsville at 1 p.m.; Thursday, Sept. 12, at Frederick Community College at 2:30 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 14, at home against Christendom College at noon.
Potomac State College volleyball prepared to open season
The Potomac State Volleyball team opens the 2019 campaign on Saturday, Sept. 7, traveling to Penn State Beaver for a tri-match at Monaca, Pennsylvania.
The Catamounts will play the host team Penn State Beaver at noon. The second match will be against Kent State Tuscarawas at 2 p.m.
On Wednesday, Sept. 11, the PSC volleyball team hosts its first home match of the year at 7 p.m. against Penn State Fayette in Lough Gymnasium.
