WESTERNPORT - The Tri-Towns CROP Hunger Walk will be held Sunday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. at Creekside Park in Westernport.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the national CROP Hunger Walk, the Tri-Towns CROP Walk is setting big goals this year. The community hopes to raise $3,000 through 30 walk participants for long-term solutions to hunger. A portion of the funds raised in the Tri-Towns will go to the Tri-Towns Food Pantry.
Last year, 20 walkers raised more than $2,500 through the hunger walk.
The theme this year is “Stepping Up to End Hunger since 1969.” The CROP Hunger Walk was started 50 years ago by a group of energized young people in Bismarck, North Dakota, who wanted to mobilize their community to fight global hunger.
Today, the CROP Hunger Walk is a national movement raising funds for the global hunger-fighting work of Church World Service and local hunger-fighting agencies.
Last year, over 800 events raised over $8.3 million.
