RAWLINGS - A Keyser man apparently fell asleep at the wheel early Tuesday morning, causing a five-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 220 in front of the Rawlings Post Office.

RAWLINGS - A Keyser man apparently fell asleep at the wheel early Tuesday morning, causing a five-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 220 in front of the Rawlings Post Office.
According to the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 6:32 a.m. accident and observed several of the five vehicles disabled in the roadway.
It was determined that Brandon Kausky, 24, of Keyser, had fallen asleep behind the wheel and crossed the center line, striking other vehicles and causing a chain reaction.
Route 220 was shut down for approximately one hour for emergency crews to investigate and safely clean up the scene.
No injuries occurred during the crash, however four of the vehicles were heavily damaged and had to be towed.
The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Rawlings and Cresaptown fire departments as a well as Cresaptown EMS and The Maryland State Highway Administration.
Investigation is continuing and charges are pending.
