COLONIAL HEIGHTS — A single-vehicle accident early on Monday morning caused traffic on the Boulevard in Colonial Heights to be rerouted near the intersection of Temple Avenue.

According to Colonial Heights Police Sgt. Renee Walters, the call for the accident came in around 6:30 a.m. The driver of the car hit a utility pole off the southbound lanes of the Boulevard, causing the power lines to fall into the road.

Walters said authorities believe a “medical issue” the driver was experiencing caused the accident. Though the driver was transported to the hospital because of the medical issue, the accident itself did not cause any injuries.

Walters said that as of Monday afternoon, no charges were being filed in the accident.

Crews were on-scene for most of the day on Monday replacing the utility pole, which had been snapped in half from the accident.

Some residents and businesses in the immediate area experienced a loss of power as a result of the accident. Walters said that as of 2:30 p.m. on Monday, some residents and businesses were still without power, but they expected power to be restored by the end of the day.

The detours around the scene were also still in place as of 2:30 p.m.
