MORGANTOWN - A Mineral County woman was pronounced dead after crews responded to a drowning at Cheat Lake Sunday night.
According to authorities, Diana Polland, 68, of Fort Ashby, was on the lake boating in a pontoon with her husband and a friend. After spending the day on the lake, they went to a restaurant  located on Mont Chateau Road.
Authorities said after a period of time, her husband and friend noticed she had been missing for awhile.
Upon searching for her, a family member found Poland in the water near the docks close to the restaurant. Officials say that Poland may have fallen while trying to get on the boat.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office, Cheat Lake Volunteer  Fire Department, Monongalia County EMS, and the WVU Health Team responded to the scene. Responders attempted CPR to revive Poland, but she was pronounced dead on the scene.
According to Chief Deputy Kisner of the sheriff’s office, they are awaiting to see if medical examiner is going to do an autopsy.
“As of now, there is nothing to indicated this was anything other than an accident,” he said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff’s Department’s Detective Devision at 304-291-7218
