1 dead, 2 injured in Saturday shooting in Petersburg

PETERSBURG  — Three adult males were shot in the city on Saturday afternoon and a 19-year-old suspect is in custody.

According to a statement released by Petersburg Police, on Saturday, June 30, at approximately 4:11 p.m., police were called to the 1400 block of Hanover Street for persons shot. Police arrived at the scene and found three adult males with gunshot wounds. Two of the victims were transported to MCV due to their injuries and the third, Antonio Drew of Petersburg, succumbed to his injuries at SRMC.

Police have identified the suspect as Melvin Myrick, 19, and at 3:42 a.m. Sunday he was taken into custody in the 7400 block of Duncan Road in Dinwiddie County with the assistance of the Dinwiddie County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police.

Myrick at this time has been charged with Malicious wounding (x2), Use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (x2), Reckless handling of a firearm (x2), Possession of a firearm by convicted felon and Discharging a firearm within the city limits (x2).
