KEYSER - The Mineral County Emergency Management will be hosting a disaster preparathon Saturday, Sept. 23, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Wal Mart in Keyser.
“The event will be fun for all ages and is a great opportunity for you to learn how to get prepared, as well as win some really cool prizes.” Says Luke McKenzie, director of Emergency Management and 911 for Mineral County.
According to McKenzie, the event will have fire departments from all across the county on the premises all day to show kids their trucks and to talk about fire safety. Keyser Fire Department will be bringing their fire safety trailer and New Creek Fire Department will be teaching hands-only CPR.
The Office of Emergency Management will be doing a drawing for those who sign up for the mass notification system to win a free Kindle Fire. They will also be doing sign ups for free smoke detectors.
On top of the drawing for the free Kindle Fire, they will have other giveaways such as drawstring bags, coloring books, crayons and other preparedness information.
Amanda Mangan from Allegany Radio Corporation will be on site from 10 a.m. to noon live broadcasting.
If anyone has any questions about the event, please call the Office of Emergency Management at 304-788-1821.
