KEYSER - Judge Deanna Rock of the 23rd Family Court Circuit will be the guest speaker for the 2017 Katharine Church Award dinner to be held Wednesday, April 26, at the Davis Conference Center.
The award, named in memory of Keyser educator, musician and humanitarian Katharine Church, honors three top females in the graduating class at Keyser High School.
Nominees this year are Naomi Bane, Camryn Barrick, and Jayna Wilson.
Judge Rock was elected in May of this year to serve in the newly-established second seat in the 23rd District, which covers Mineral, Morgan and Hampshire counties.
She was sworn in on Jan. 6 in a ceremony held in the courthouse in Mineral County.
Before her election, she had worked as an attorney in private practice since 2003. She is licensed in West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland and focused on domestic, personal injury, and workers’ compensation cases.
She holds a bacehlor’s degree in justice studies from Frostburg State University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the West Virginia University College of Law.
Prior to her legal career, she obtained an associate’s degree
in nursing from Mount Aloysius Junior College in 1986 and worked as a Registered Nurse, primarily in the operating room at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland, Garrett Memorial Hospital in Oakland, St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, Maryland, and Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania.
Judge Rock is a member of the West Virginia Family Court Judiciary Association, the West Virginia State Bar Association, and the Mineral County Bar Association, where she served as president in 2015.
From 2009-2011, she served as announcer for the boys varsity soccer team at Bishop Walsh, and 2011-2012 she was head coach for the boys varsity tennis team at Bishop Walsh.
She is married to Kenneth Rock, M.D., and has an adult son.
She resides in Mineral County.
