KEYSER – A Keyser man was arrested Thursday and charged with possession of child pornography, and violation of a previous sex-offense probation, after allegedly sharing digital images of child pornography on Facebook.

Kenneth Allen Gano, 24, was being held without bond at Potomac Highlands Regional Jail after his arrest, which followed a week-long investigation by the Keyser City Police Department and Mineral County Probation Office.

In addition to a probation violation stemming from a third-degree sex offense conviction last September in Mineral County Circuit Court, Gano is charged with one count of possession of child pornography and four counts of distribution of child pornography.

The five felony charges carry 18 years prison time, and/or an $18,000 fine.

Gano was also charged with impersonating a police officer, two counts of domestic assault and one count of Internet harassment. Those charges will be presented to the Mineral County Grand Jury when it next convenes in April.

No other information was available Thursday.

In other activity, a Keyser couple were charged with obstructing police after the woman told officers searching for the man that he was not home at the time, when a subsequent search found him hiding inside the residence.

Keyser Police arrested William V. Ely, 39, of Keyser, on a failure-to-appear warrant from Mineral County Magistrate Court. He was being held Thursday at the regional jail on $1,900 bail.

Police said officers arrived at the residence in the 90 block of Ward Avenue shortly after noon Wednesday to serve the warrant on Ely. However, they were told by Whitney L. Landis, 34, that Ely was not there at that time. Landis, though, consented to a search of the residence, and officers found Ely hiding in a separate room.

Ely and Landis were both charged with obstructing police, as well as misdemeanor possession of marijuana for paraphernalia and a small amount of pot that were seen in plain view at the residence.

Ely was incarcerated for the failure-to-appear charge. Landis was cited and released.
