Petersburg Police allege they were found in a stolen car with firearms, narcotics and $6,800 in cash

PETERSBURG — Three men are in custody after they were caught in a stolen vehicle with weapons, drugs and $6,800 in cash last week in the western part of the city, Petersburg Police said Tuesday.

According to a police statement, he three men — Deonte Johnson, 35, of Chesterfield County; and Darius McLean, 25, and Howard Stith Jr., 37, both of Petersburg — were found after detectives "came in contact with a 2018 Lexus" they occupied shortly before 8:30 p.m. Dec. 6 in the 2100 block of Ferndale Avenue. An investigation revealed the car to have been stolen.

Police did not disclose how or why detectives came in contact with the vehicle.

After the encounter, police said, detectives searched the vehicle and found three firearms; the cash; a digital scale; five cell phones; and various amounts of marijuana, cocaine, heroin and pills.

All three were charged with drug possession and distribution. Johnson and McLean also face charges of possession of a concealed weapon and ammunition by a felon.
