FOUNTAIN -- An Oakland man died Friday night from injuries sustained the day before when his motorcycle collided with a car attempting to cross Route 46 in Fountain.

FOUNTAIN -- An Oakland man died Friday night from injuries sustained the day before when his motorcycle collided with a car attempting to cross Route 46 in Fountain.

Richard Welling, 51, was pronounced dead early Friday night at Maryland Shock Trauma, where he had been flown following the accident, which occurred just before 6 p.m. Thursday.

According to the West Virginia State Police, Willing was operating a 2003 Harley Davidson eastbound on Route 46, when a southbound car driven by Vicki Hastings, 41, pulled from Knobley Road attempting to cross 46. Welling's bike struck the passenger side of the Hastings vehicle.

The Fountain Volunteer Fire Department was first to respond along with their medic and ambulance. Keyser Station 57 also had a medic response for assistance. Mr. Welling was flown via Trooper 5 to the Western Maryland Health System. Later Thursday night he was flown to a Baltimore Trauma facility.

The accident remains under investigation by Sgt. S. B. Huffman of the West Virginia State Police.
