SHORT GAP, W.Va.--Frankfort struck by land and air, on offense and on special teams, early and often, in a 55-0 win over the Petersburg Vikings in high school football action Friday night at Falcon Stadium.
For Frankfort, James Jones completed eight of 11 passes for 222 yards and four touchdowns, all in the first half.
Saige Shepherd carried the ball seven times for 67 yards and a touchdown, also all in the first half.
Jeremy Miltenberger had three receptions for 105 yards and a score; Logan Wolford tallied three catches for 69 yards and a touchdown.
Winless Petersburg, under interim head coach Steve Whiteman, turned the ball over four times and managed just 154 offensive yards.
On their first possession, Petersburg snapped the ball over the punter's head on fourth down, handing Frankfort a short field at the Viking 15.
Three Saige Shepherd carries and an extra point later, the Falcons led 7-0 with 8:36 to go in the first quarter.
After Frankfort forced another three-and-out, James Jones hooked up with Jeremy Miltenberger for a 50-yard gain on first down, but illegal motion and holding penalties forced the Falcons into fourth-and-20.
No problem for Jones, who hit Logan Wolford over the top down the left wing for 28 yards and a lead-doubling touchdown.
Petersburg moved the chains for the first time thanks to a fake punt and made a shallow venture into Falcon territory before punting into the end zone.
Shepherd picked up 26 yards on first down, then Jones hit Miltenberger four plays later for a 31-yard touchdown with 10:57 left in the second quarter. Frankfort led 21-0.
Petersburg showed some
life on their next drive; Braxton Runion scampered 34 yards down the right sideline and was hit out of bounds for 15 more yards, but Petersburg turned the ball over on downs at the Frankfort 34.
Frankfort used the ground game to churn out three first downs, then Jones tossed his third touchdown pass of the evening to his third different receiver, this time dumping the ball down the middle to Dalton Brown, who evaded several defenders and took it to the house from 25 yards out with 7:15 remaining in the first half. Frankfort led 28-0.
The Falcons got the ball right back when Runion's halfback pass was intercepted by Cody Weese at his own 41, but Frankfort fumbled it back two plays later.
Petersburg again moved into Frankfort territory before turning the ball over on downs with 1:38 left in the half.
A fourth passing touchdown for Jones went to a fourth receiver; this time, Skyler Minke in the front of the end zone from 23 yards. Wolford remained perfect on extra points for the first half, making the score 35-0.
Petersburg, who had just 84 yards in the first half, took a knee and headed to the locker room.
Frankfort's second unit drove into Viking territory on the second half's opening possession, but Dalton Cooper intercepted Brian Bills.
The Falcons' special teams did their job, blocking a Viking punt five plays later. Eric Bonner blocked the kick and Roger Ryan recovered, but Bills fumbled the ball right back on offense. The rest of the quarter passed without incident.
One minute into the fourth quarter, Ryan Bobo returned a Viking punt 55 yards for a touchdown. Wolford's kick was no good, but Frankfort still held a commanding 41-point lead.
The Falcons forced a turnover, then Justin Sachs and Derek Sisk combined to chew up the final 44 yards on the ground. Sisk finished the drive from 14 yards out.
The kick was good, and Frankfort now led 48-0.
The Vikings went three-and-out, and Bobo took it to the house again, this time from 80 yards, on the return.
The Vikings fumbled on their final possession, and the Falcons ran the clock out to seal the 55-0 win.
Petersburg (0-7) looks for their first win next week at Moorefield,
Frankfort (5-2) hosts Allegany on Homecoming.
