CUMBERLAND—Frostburg’s Kimberly Vest won the women’s division at the inaugural Mountain Maryland Marathon Festival, and Ridgeley’s Woody Snoberger took honors in the men’s half-marathon on a warm  Sunday morning at Canal Place.
Vest completed her 26.2 mile circuit in three hours, 28 minutes, and 49 seconds, or just a shade under a eight-minute pace per mile.
Snoberger, competing in his first-ever half marathon, finished in one hour, 23 minutes, and seven seconds, or a blistering 6:21 pace per mile.
The former Frankfort High and West Virginia Wesleyan runner competed in his first full marathon, the National Marathon in Washington, D.C., last month and says that he’s still “sore pretty much everywhere” from that race.
He ran 10-15 miles a day, with a once-a-week workout of 20-24 miles, to prepare.
Vest wins $1,000; Snoberger takes home $500, which he says he’ll use to “pay bills”.
Also putting in a strong showing was 14-year-old Frankfort runner Julie Howser, who finished third in the women’s 5K--and tops in her age group--with a time of 24:11.
