Local coach named Retired Coach of the Year

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -

 Former Keyser High School Coach Jim Broome was recently honored by the West Virginia Athletic Coaches Association as West Virginia Retired Coach of the Year.
The presentation was held at the Charleston Civic Center in Charleston, West Virginia during the finals of the Boys State Basketball Tournament. Jamie Tallman, a member of the West Virginia Athletic Director’s Association and former president of the West Virginia Athletic Coaches Association presented Broome with the award.  The ceremony honored eight former coaches and was viewed by several thousand spectators.
Broome was named West Virginia Cross Country Coach of the Year during the 1986-1987 season.  He coached basketball, football, cross country and tack during his 39 year tenure at Keyser High School.  His coaching record for all sports at all levels 1,847 and 619 losses.  He is a member of Keyser High School Athletic Hall of Fame  and of the Potomac State Athletic Hall of Fame.
