ACCIDENT—The Keyser Lady Tornado lost at Northern on Thursday night, 61-47.
The first quarter was back and forth with Northern hitting a three late in the quarter to take the three point advantage, 18-15.
During the second quarter, Keyser was out-scored, 22-8.
Northern made seven threes in the half and Kaitlynn Fratz led all scorers with 17 points.
Keyser closed to within ten points after three quarters and cut the lead to four points with 2:15 to go in the game, but did not score again.
Megan Broshnihan hit a deep contested three from the corner to give Northern a seven point lead. "That was the biggest shot of the game and it seemed to take the wind out of our sails,” said KHS coach Josh Blowe.
Keyser’s Julia Ludwick led all scorers with 22 points and six rebounds. Elizabeth Yaider chipped in six points and five rebounds. “We are getting better but we still haven’t played four quarters all season,” said Blowe.
“Against the best team in the area you have to play four quarters and we only played three last night. Their coach (Fratz) did give us high praise in the way we play so physical, hard, and smart and he said we are a good team.”
Northern was led by Fratz’s 21 points, Terra McKenzie’s 14, and Adria Graham’s 12.
“I was impressed by the way our girls came out and played,” said Blowe.
“We are getting better and I believe it will start showing down the stretch run into the playoffs.”
