The Potomac State Lady Catamounts improved to 5-0 on the season with an 83-44 pounding of Prince George’s Community College Monday evening.
The win will set up a showdown tonight with local and national power Garrett Community College as the Lady Lakers currently hold the 22nd position in the NJCAA rankings.
Garrett defeated the Lady Cat’s in both of their meetings last season.
“It is a big game (with Garrett), “ said Potomac State head coach Jim Walton, “They won the Region XX last year and they are nationally ranked.
“We are still struggling to put together a whole game and we will have to cut down our turnovers if we want to win.”
Freshman Shaniece banks continued her strong season with a game-high 15 points to pace PSC against PG, while pre-season second-team All-Juco pick Amanda McKim put together a solid performance contributing 12 points and four steals, and added a team-high eight rebounds.
“”Like I said we are still struggling to get a complete game, “ said Walton, “I am not complaining I mean we won by 39, and we have shown a lot of depth.
“We are playing a lot of players, our depth is our biggest asset, and we have players stepping up in areas like McKim. She is struggling from the floor but is contributing in other ways.”
Former Hampshire High School standout Julieanne Buckley has been one of Potomac’s most consistent producers, and she came up with a great all-around game again with 10 points, seven assists and five steals, the latter two game highs.
Erica Ford rounded out the double-digit scorers for the Lady Cat’s with 11 points.
Tipoff at Lough is 7 pm.
