Frankfort falls by 36, 73-37

SHORT GAP – The Frankfort Falcons lost at home Monday night to the Bishop Walsh Spartans 73-37. Pat Jones, Gregg Hendershot, and Liam Rhodes led the Spartans in scoring with 15 points each. For Frankfort, Jordan Wilson (pictured, right) led with 12 points.
Hendershot gave the Spartans their first lead of the night coming off two foul shots and Jones contributed with two more points at the line.
Hendershot again gave Bishop Walsh two more but the Falcons Wilson and Colton Dorsey kept it close. Bishop Walsh’s Ive Hedges continued to move them along after hitting a layup with 5:14 to play and shortly after Jones and Rhodes gave the Spartans four more off of two layups.
Hendershot added three more to Bishop Walsh’s score at the 3:08 mark but Dorsey responded for the Falcons by tipping the rebound back in as he tried to keep his team in it.
Jones gave the Spartans two more but Frankfort’s Ryan Minnigh put up three points of his own with under a minute left to play. Dorsey tacked on two more for the Falcons but Jones came right back, hitting the deep three to close out the first period.
Wilson of the Falcons opened up the second quarter by hitting a deep three to move his team closer but Bill Conroy of Bishop Walsh kept extending the lead following a steal and Lucus Bruck added a layup in traffic. Thane Cutter of the Falcons put his team within seven after nailing a deep jumper shot with 4:28 to play. Rhodes and Hendershot gave the Spartans five more as the lead began to grow heading into half time. Bishop Walsh took advantage of a mishandle by Frankfort as they got the steal and Trey Jessie made the layup to further increase the lead. Cutter and Wilson added five more points to the Falcons score as the second quarter ended with the Spartans on top 31-21.
Bishop Walsh threw the ball in to begin the second half and got right back to work as Hedges ran in a layup to continue increasing the lead. Rhodes added two more for Bishop Walsh off of a layup but Dorsey got them right back for Frankfort after making a layup in return.
Jessie, Hedges, and Jones of the Spartans came up with six more points as they began their 18-5 point run to close out the final minutes of the third period. The Falcons threw the ball in to start the final period and Minnigh and Wilson made a layup each as they tried to dig themselves out of a deep hole.
Rhodes kept building the Spartan lead as he ran in a layup with 6:06 left to play in the game. Coming off a jumper, Wilson gave Frankfort two more at the 5:30 mark of the fourth quarter. Rhodes and Jessie for the Spartans answered with five points and later two back to back steals by Rhodes and Jones produced four more points with 3:08 to play.
The Spartans finished the final period like they did the last, going on a 6-2 point streak as they knocked off Frankfort.       
Frankfort’s JV also suffered a loss to the Spartans 33-27. Brandon Reed and Haven Mackie led in scoring, Reed with 12 points and Mackie with 10.
For the Falcons, Chase Detrick finished with 14 points and Gage Shaffer had 7.
The Falcons (1-15) will host Keyser Thursday night at home, while the Spartans travel to Mountain Ridge to take on the Miners Wednesday night.
