In a game that went back-and-forth and six lead changes, the third-rated
Moorefield and Frankfort combined for 16 hits and 16 errors as the Yellow Jackets
outlasted the Falcons 11-10 at Frankfort High School.
In the bottom of a scoreless seventh inning the Falcons left Courtney Dolly, the
tying run on third. Dolly led off the final stanza with a walk, stole second and
took third on a ground out and the drive ended there.
Laci Fitzwater and Maddie Elmore led Moorefield (12-4) with two hits apiece. Elmore
scored three times and Fitzwater crossed the plate twice.
Rachal Alkire and Savannah Hose led Frankfort with three singles apiece and scored
three times. Kristi Salonish doubled and had two singles.
The first inning was knotted at 1 apiece and stayed tied until Frankfort took a lead
of 5-4 in the fourth inning. The game was 6-5 after the fifth inning before
Moorefield took the 11-10 lead with six sixth-inning runs. Frankfort scored four
times in the bottom of the inning.
Frankfort out-hit the Yellow Jackets, 9-7, while Moorefield had nine errors to the
Falcons' seven.
Frankfort's Lace Shaw started and was relieved by Taylor rice in the sixth inning.
Sam Markwood started for Moorefield and was relieved by Bridgette Ours. Pitchers for
both teams combined for six strike out each.
Frankfort (9-7) will play in the Bub Riggleman Memorial Tournament in Moorefield on
Friday and Saturday.
