SHORT GAP, W.Va. - -Allegany scored a touchdown in every quarter and held Frankfort to just 137 yards of total offense in a 27-7 win at Falcon Stadium in high school football action Friday night.
Frankfort quarterback James Jones was limited to 5-of-16 passing for 59 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
Frankfort (5-3) started brightly, but an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty killed the first drive of the night and forced a punt.
On Allegany's second play, JD Hook went 41 yards only to have a hold bring the big run back.
The penalty bug bit the Campers (7-1) again when a J.D. Hook 16-yard run was negated by a personal foul after the play.
However, Sean Collette found the end zone on the next play from 20 yards out, running left.
John Carpenter's extra point gave Allegany an early 7-0 advantage with 4:30 left in the first quarter.
Frankfort went three-and-out on their next possession.
Allegany picked up a first down, but went three yards in the wrong direction on their next three plays.
In punt formation, Allegany punter Carpenter's knee touched the ground on a low
snap, and Frankfort took over on downs at the Allegany 40.
Joey Luciw picked up a critical fourth down for Frankfort, but four straight James
Jones incompletion passes turned the ball over on downs.
Two penalties slowed Allegany, but four plays for double-digit yardage fueled a
13-play, 66-yard drive.
Collette's 18-yard sprint left capped the drive. Carpenter's extra point was good
and Allegany's cushion doubled with 3:39 left in the first half, 14-0.
Again, Frankfort went one first down and done, thanks in large part to a holding penalty.
The Campers moved into Falcon territory quickly, but an illegal block in the back penalty pushed them back across midfield.
Both teams were content to let the clock run out and head to the locker room.
Allegany tallied 143 yards to account for their 14 first-half points, all on the ground.
Frankfort managed just 39 yards of offense in the first half, also all on the
ground. James Jones was 0-for-6 passing in the first half for the Falcons.
95 yards were doled out in first-half penalties.
After a personal foul against Frankfort on the opening kickoff of the second half, the Campers drove 53 yards for their third touchdown of the game.
Dustin Wharton found paydirt from 12 yards with 8:11 let in the third quarter. The kick was no good. Allegany led 20-0.
Frankfort then went three-and-out again, but Allegany did the same thanks to two nice stops by Saige Shepherd.
Shepherd carried the momentum over on offense, picking up 17 yards on third-and short, the first Falcon play of more than ten yards.
But, on a critical 4th and 2, Christian Brown dropped a Jones pass and Frankfort was forced to turn the ball over on downs.
Allegany was unsuccessful on a fake punt four plays later, giving the ball back to Frankfort.
After Jones' first completion of the night, albeit in
the wrong direction for a four yard loss, Sean Collette made a diving interception on the next play at his own 30 on a pass intended for Brown.
Frankfort got a glimmer of hope when Allegany fumbled the ball away with 6:51 left in the fourth quarter.
That glimmer got brighter when Jones hit Joey Luciw for 24 yards and also tacked on 15 yards thanks to a roughing the passer penalty.
Suddenly hot, Jones hooked up with two plays later to Jeremy Miltenberger for a 34-yard touchdown pass.
Logan Wolford's extra point was good, and suddenly, with 6:14 left, it was a two-score game: Allegany 20, Frankfort 7.
But on the subsequent onside kick, Frankfort touched the ball before it went ten yards, setting Allegany up at the Frankfort 48.
The Campers picked a nice time for their first completion of the night; Drew O'Neill hit Chris Kane over the top for a 24-yard touchdown with 3:43 remaining after Wharton and Collette runs had moved the sticks twice.
Allegany led 27-7, and sealed the deal on a Trevor Jessie interception with 1:51 left, the 12th Camper interception of the year.
Bo Volmerhausen and Ariel Davis were selected as the Homecoming King and Queen before the game.
Frankfort hosts Keyser next week on Senior Day; Allegany is home against Northern Friday.
