With weather splitting the Central District matchups into two games on Friday and two on Saturday, four student-athletes emerged as candidates for Progress-Index FOOTBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK. Dinwiddie, Matoaca, Hopewell and Thomas Dale are the four schools represented in the poll.
Hopewell's Daniel Grier completed 10 of 21 passes for 141 yards and four touchdowns and added 44 yards rushing on 5 carries in his Blue Devils' 42-0 win over Prince George.
Dinwiddie's Ky'mon Pope caught an interception and returned it 35 yards for a touchdown, completed nine of 13 passes for 175 yards and carried the ball five times for 77 yards and two touchdowns in his Generals' 56-6 win over Meadowbrook.
Matoaca's Gage Simmons scored a touchdown on an 85-yard opening kickoff return and added a 35-yard receiving touchdown in his Warriors' 38-14 win over Colonial Heights.
Thomas Dale's Darius Sterling had seven tackles including two sacks and forced two fumbles with one fumble recovery in the Knights' 28-24 win over Petersburg.
