KEYSER - The Potomac State volleyball team has been busy lately as they played a total of 22 sets over the course of three days this past weekend.
The Catamounts hosted a tri match on Friday night at home against Garrett CC  and came away with victory 3-0 (25-20, 25-11, 25-8).
After the sweep over Garrett Potomac State continued the excellent play defeating Cecil CC 3-0 (25-20,  25-10, 25-15).
After a successful start to the weekend the Catamounts headed to Montgomery College to compete in the Raptor Tournament which was structured as a round robin tournament with the top two teams advancing to the finals.
The first game on Saturday started off with Howard CC winning (25-12, 25-15, 25-10).
Then Potomac State played the College of Southern MD and the Catamounts kept the hot streak alive with another 3-0 victory (25-18, 25-19, 25-11).
On Sunday Potomac State put their winning streak on the line and faced off against undefeated Montgomery College and lost in 4 tight sets. (24-26, 25-23, 23-25, and 23-25)
After the mild setback the Catamounts finished off round robin play against Rhode Island CC and dominated all three sets (25-23, 25-12, 25-15).
In the final match Potomac State started off with several errors and Montgomery took a quick 10-2 lead on us.
The team struggled to fight their way back in the game but could not overcome the large point differential.
Coach Martha Ganoe commented, “The girls put forth a great effort but we were exhausted and emotionally worn out in the final sets.  We just were never able to get into a good rhythm and could not put any offensive pressure on Montgomery. Unfortunately we gave them too many free ball opportunities, and in transition they are extremely difficult to stop.” Potomac State ended up with the loss (16-25, 19-25, 14-25.) Devan Day and Ny McGraw we named to the All Tournament Team.
“This is our fourth loss to Montgomery and they are definitely the team to beat in the region.  We will see them again this Friday at home and hope to have another exciting match much like the one we had in our pool play match over the weekend.” said Coach Ganoe.
