KEYSER - The Golden Tornado track season kicked off on Thursday March 29th and the boys took home victory at Alumni Field narrowly beating Tucker County.
The Golden Tornado guys scored 117 points to beat Tucker County (108), Berkeley Springs (61), Moorefield (44), and Paw Paw (34). On the girls’ side, Tucker County scored 123 beating Berkeley Springs (105), Keyser (84), Moorefield (26), and Union (18).
The Golden Tornado boys were propelled by their performances in the relays. In the 4x110 Shuttle Hurdles the team of Brendan Pattison, Tanner Staggs, Jacob Welch, and Hunter High clocked a time of 1:10.57 to finish in first. In the 4x800 relay, Jacob Biser, Philip Biser, Hyuma Kori, and Connor DelSignore combined for a time of 9:25.50 which was good enough for first place. Keyser won the 4x400 Relay with a time of 3:53.51 ran by Connor DelSignore, Christian Ravenscroft, Jacob Biser, and Reggie Redman. The Golden Tornado took home first in the 4x100 Relay as Tanner Staggs, Zion Powell, Reggie Redman, and Christian Ravenscroft ran a time of 47.50. In the 4x200 Relay Tanner Staggs, Zion Powell, Jacob Smith, and Christian Ravenscroft ran a 1:40.64 which was good enough for second place. The Golden Tornado boys did well in the field with Steven ‘Scooba’ White winning the Shot Put with a throw of 45 feet 7 inches. In the Discus Shayden Daugherty took home first place with a throw of 136 feet 10 inches, and Steven ‘Scooba’ White finished second throwing a distance of 129 feet 1 inch. Reggie Redman was the top athlete in the High Jump clearing 5 feet 8 inches. In Pole Vault Brendan Pattison and Tanner Staggs both finished in second place clearing 9 feet 6 inches. Connor DelSignore posted a jump of 17 feet 5 inches to finish third in the Long Jump.
On the track Zion Powell finished third in 100 Meters with a time of 12.52 and Gavin Root finished fourth with a time of 12.78. Christian Ravenscroft took home top honors in 200 Meters with a time of 24.37. In 800 Meters Jacob Biser finished third in 2:21.95, while Jonathan Corle finished fourth in 2:25.40. Reggie Redman was the top finisher in 300m Hurdles – 36” with a time of 43.20.
The Golden Tornado girls track team found success in the field led by Kayla Willison and Toni ‘Emmy’ Stickley. In the Discus Kayla Willison threw 78 feet 1 inch to take home first place. In Shot Put Kayla finished in second place throwing a distance of 31 feet 7.5 inches. Emmy Stickley cleared 6 feet to take home first place in Pole Vault. In the High Jump Clarissa Ravenscroft cleared 4 feet to finish in fourth place. Peighton Tranum jumped 13 feet 8 inches in Long Jump which was good enough to finish in second place while Mya Purvis jumped 12 feet 4 inches for fifth place. The Golden Tornado girls team of Cortney Butts, Leann Baker, Alyssa Strother, and Delta Wheeler took home first place in the 4x800 Relay with a time of 11:46.00. The combination of Acutayvia Robinette, Cortney Butts, Peighton Tranum, and Delta Wheeler posted a time of 4:38.00 in the 4x400 Relay which was good enough for 2nd place. In the 300m Hurdles Keyser’s Emmy Stickley finished first with a time of 55.10 while Graci Crites finished third with a time of 59.16. In 100m Hurdles Emmy Stickley ran 18.81 to finish in third place. Cortney Butts finished in 6:47.03 which was good enough for third in 1600 Meters. In 100 Meters Delta Wheeler ran a 14.16 for a third place finish. The 4x100 Relay team of Mya Purvis, Graci Crites, Indian Grubbs, and Delta Wheeler ran a time of 58.39 for a third place finish. The 4x200 Relay team of Acutayvia Robinette, Mya Purvis, India Grubbs, and Peighton Tranum took home third place with a time of 2:02.81.
