KEYSER- On a cold Thursday evening the Golden Tornado extended their winning streak to 3 games by defeating the Hampshire Trojans 61-51. The Golden Tornado victory improved their overall record to 4-3, marking the first time this season the team sits above the .500 mark.

This Keyser basketball squad plays unselfish basketball. Without having a predetermined go to guy on the court, the Golden Tornado rely on a multitude of options as a different player will step up to lead the team in scoring on any given night. Having multiple options is a good thing for this team and it only works because everyone is willing to share the basketball. In one game it might be Ryan Shoemaker or Jacob Biser with the hot hand.  Then in the next game Jackson White might be sinking the 3 to lead Keyser in scoring. Then the following contest might feature a combination effort from the Brady bunch.Against the Trojans it was Marlon Dorsett’s turn to stuff the stat sheet as he scored a team high 12 points for the Golden Tornado.

Keyser jumped out to 14-13 lead after the 1st quarter and then the offense began to heat up. Behind Marlon Dorsett’s 10 point 2nd quarter outburst the Golden Tornado offense owned Hampshire throughout the 2nd quarter leading 37-21 at intermission. The Trojans regrouped and were able to hold Keyser to just 9 points in the 3rd quarter trimming the lead down to 46-32 entering the final 8 minutes of play. Hampshire made a hard charge in the 4th quarter dropping in 19 points and getting within 6 points of the Golden Tornado but Keyser was able to hit some key free throws down the stretch to seal the deal 61-51.

Marlon Dorsett led the team with 12 points, and Brady Clay finished  in double digits as well with 11 points. Ryan Shoemaker hit 4 field goals and 1 free throw for 9 points, while Willie Ack hit a pair of 3’s and a 2 point shot to finish with 8 points. Jacob Biser dropped in 7 points, Brady Ours added 5 points, and Jacob Hanlin contributed 4 points. The game today against Phillip Barbour was canceled therefore next up for Keyser is a road game on Monday Jan. 8th at Fort Hill at 7:30PM.
