BERKELEY SPRINGS - On Friday night the Frankfort Falcons kicked off the 2017-18 season and lost to Saint James 43-66. On Saturday the Falcons took out their frustration on the Washington Patriots winning the game 69-13.
BERKELEY SPRINGS - On Friday night the Frankfort Falcons girls basketball team kicked off the 2017-18 season but struggled to find rhythm against Saint James losing 43-66 in game one of the Tip-Off Classic in Berkeley Springs. Chalk up the offensive struggles for Frankfort as first game jitters. It was apparent early in the contest that Frankfort was simply out of sync and after the 1st quarter the Saints held a big lead 18-6. The Falcons offense in the 2nd quarter wasn’t much better as they scored just 7 points. The score at halftime was in favor of the Saints, with a comfortable 26-13 lead. At the start of the 2nd half Frankfort could not stop the Saint James offensive attack especially in the 3rd quarter as the Saints scored 24 points to give them a 50-23 advantage. Frankfort was able to outscore St James in the 4th quarter posting 20 points, but the deficit was too large to overcome. The St. James Saints walked away with a 66-43 victory.
The highlight of the game for Frankfort was when junior PG Abby Beeman made a free throw to score her 1,000th point as a Falcon. Abby finished the game with 23 points. Macie Miller also contributed to the Falcons offense by scoring 11 points. Makenna Douthitt finished with 3 points while her teammates Claire Howell, Ashley Phillips, and Haley Malone each scored 2 points.
On Saturday evening the Falcons were matched up with the Washington Patriots and they looked like a completely different team. Frustrated with their performance on Friday night, the Falcons took out their anger on the Patriots and played with intensity on both ends of the court. The offense exploded for 18 points in the 1st quarter while holding Washington to only 1 point. The Frankfort defense continued to suffocate the Patriots in the 2nd quarter holding them to just 2 points. The score at halftime was Frankfort 31 Washington 3.
With the game securely in hand the Falcons bench saw significant playing time in the 2nd half, but the offensive output continued to be impressive scoring 17 points in the 3rd quarter and 21 points in the 4th quarter. The final score was Frankfort 69 Washington 13. Makenna Douthitt scored 19 points to lead the Falcons, Abby Beeman finished with 18 points, and Macie Miller dropped in 11 points. Ashley Phillips contributed to the scoring attack with 9 points, while Claire Howell put up 5 points, Izzy Layton had 4 points, and Kaitlyn Crist chipped in with 3 points. Next up for the Frankfort Falcons is an away game on Wednesday December 6th against the Rams of Southern Garrett. The JV game tips off at 6:00pm with Varsity to follow.
