Romney Post 91 brought their hitting show on the road to play a doubleheader against Preston Post 56.
In true American fashion Romney Post 91 produced something else Americans enjoy; scoring.
In 12 innings of play over the course of 2 games the kids from Romney posted 40 runs! I double checked with the editor (me) to make sure 40 was not a typo.
Needless to say, the bats in the dugout are hotter than a branding iron which helped Romney Post 91  to a crushing victory in the first game 23-7, and the second game 17-4 over Preston Post 56.
Highlights from Game 1: In the second inning with the score tied 2-2, Tobin Whittington stepped to the plate, flexed his muscles, and smacked a home run to officially ignite the Romney offense.  Tobin finished the game a double short of hitting for the cycle as he produced 4 hits, 3 RBI, and 3 runs.
Leadoff hitter Zach Whitacre had 3 hits, 3 runs, and 2 RBI while Blake Wasson put up 4 hits, 4 runs, and 3 RBI. Andrew Butts had 2 triples, 3 hits, 2 runs, and 4 RBI while his teammate Wyatt Yates smacked 4 hits, 4 runs, and 2 RBI.
Highlights from Game 2: After a decisive victory in the first game, Romney Post 91 could have mentally relaxed with Independence Day plans becoming the primary discussion in the dugout, however this team stayed mentally focused.
There was no need for spectators to wait until nightfall as the offensive fireworks continued on the diamond for Romney Post 91.
Heading into the bottom of the second inning, Romney held a 7-0 advantage as Preston Post 56 realized they were up against an offensive juggernaut.
Leading the way for Post 91 was John Judy with 3 hits in 3 at-bats, 2 runs, and 5 RBI. Andrew Butts had 2 hits, 3 runs, 2 RBI, while 1st baseman John Ackerman had 2 hits, 4 runs, and 1 RBI. Wyatt Yates put up 3 hits and 3 RBI and Eli Hott posted 3 hits, 2 runs, and 1 RBI.
Romney Post 91 has won 11 of the last 12 games and looks to continue their winning ways Wednesday afternoon against Moorefield.
