KEYSER - The Southern Garrett girls basketball team rolled into Keyser sporting a 10 game winning streak and came away adding number eleven by defeating the Lady Tornado 50-40.

KEYSER - The Southern Garrett girls basketball team rolled into Keyser sporting a 10 game winning streak and came away adding number eleven by defeating the Lady Tornado 50-40. The key to victory for the Lady Rams was the all around game of Kamrin Weimer; a senior who is committed to play at Fairleigh Dickinson University next year. After the first quarter of play the score was Keyser 10 Kamrin Weimer 12. The positive for Keyser was they held everybody else scoreless, therefore after eight minutes of play the Lady Tornado only trailed by 2 points. Keyser made adjustments defensively to shut down Weimer, however the offense continued to struggle for the Lady Tornado. Too many easy baskets were missed in the second quarter as Keyser could only muster 6 points. The Lady Tornado went on a five minute draught without a basket, allowing Southern Garrett to gain a nine point lead late in the quarter. At halftime the score was 24-16 in favor of Southern Garrett.

In the third quarter, Keyser continued to struggle on the offensive end scoring only 8 points, which gave Southern a 34-24 advantage to start the fourth quarter. Although the offense was able to put up 16 points in the final quarter for Keyser it was not enough as Southern scored 16 points as well, to finish the game with a final score of 50-40.

Keyser missed 17 layups in the first 16 minutes of the game. Bob Shook

Brie Kunis led the way for Keyser scoring 12 points with a perfect 4 for 4 from the free throw line. Jayna Wilson dropped 9 points, while Lexi Turner put in 6 points. For Southern Garrett Kamrin Weimer scored 19 points while Courtney Roth dropped 13 points. Next up for Keyser is the sectional tournament with a home contest on Wednesday February 22nd against the winner of Frankfort vs. Grafton.
