On Friday night the Keyser Golden Tornado fought a tough battle against the No. 3 AA team in West Virginia, the Philip Barbour Colts (13-3), and came up just short 60-65.
KEYSER - On Friday night the Keyser Golden Tornado fought a tough battle against the No. 3 AA team in West Virginia, the Philip Barbour Colts (13-3), and came up just short 60-65. A slow start on the offensive end for the Golden Tornado allowed Philip Barbour to jump out to a 15-11 lead at the end of the first quarter. Keyser continued to struggle in the second quarter and the Colts took advantage and went into halftime with a 33-21 lead.
Coach John Haines made some halftime adjustments and Keyser went into the second half ready to write a different story. The offense started running set plays and Keyser began to hit shots. At the end of the third quarter Keyser had trimmed the lead down to 10 points. In the fourth quarter Philip Barbour started to show cracks in their defense, which allowed Keyser to put up 21 points, however it was not enough as the Colts held on to win the game 65-60.
Cam White led the Golden Tornado scoring attack with 21 points, while three point specialist Andrew Liller converted 5 from beyond the arc and finished with 17 points. Deavonte Johnson was terrific defensively and managed to contribute 6 points on the offensive end. For Philip Barbour David Shriver dropped 18 points, Spencer Hudkins put in 17 points, while Cole Whited finished with 15 points. Next up for Keyser (9-10) is a road trip to Moorefield, tonight February 14th with the varsity tipping off at 7:30pm.
