Nearly 500 helped, but another 112 still waiting on Warm the Children
To the Editor:
Not all kids are wishing for iPods and video games this winter!
Many are wishing for things much more basic, like a new winter coat and a pair of boots to keep them warm and dry … or a pair of mittens to warm their chilly fingers. With the help of Mineral County’s Warm the Children program, many local children will receive the new winter clothing that they so badly want and need.
Warm the Children kicked off its 2011 season in September with a goal of helping all 603 children on our application list at a rate of $80 per child, which meant that we were challenged to raise over $48,000 – quite a goal for a small community like ours.
As of today, I am happy to say that we have received enough donations to shop for 491 of those children.  However, as our 2011 campaign season enters its final weeks, we are well aware that there are still 112 kids waiting for our call.  We don’t want any of our local children not having the warm clothes they deserve – so we still need your help!
We will continue to accept donations for this year’s campaign through Dec. 12.  Contributions can be made payable to “Warm the Children” and mailed to the Mineral Daily News-Tribune, P. O. Box 879, Keyser, WV 26726.  Donations may also be made in person at the News-Tribune office on Route 220 South (in front of Tractor Supply).  All donations – large or small – will make a difference.
Thank you for helping us as we continue to share the warmth!
