KEYSER, W.Va. -

To the Editor:

The education system has changed dramatically in the past 56 years. The people of Mineral County must realize that our children need quality education and facilities to provide a learning experience our students need to be competitive.
In reference to the Wiley Ford School and the additions that have been made: There has been one classroom added and it is divided by a partition so that pre-school and Title 1 may have a space for students.
The renovations that are intended for Wiley Ford would provide additions for third and fourth grade classrooms.
This would allow students who live in the Carpendale, Ridgeley, and Wiley Ford areas to be closer to home and would mean they would not need bus transportation from Fort Ashby, as they are now.
There would also be a gym/cafeteria added to the school. Due to the small cafeteria, there isn’t enough room to accomodate parents and families for activities.
Better schools will help encourage industry to our area. If we continue to vote no, what will our schools be like in 50 years? Please stop by your local school, take a tour, ask questions.
Everyone needs to think about the extra dollars they spend each week and have nothing to show for it. Helping our kids seems like a great way to spend that money.
