The price of gas is out of control and is creating an economic crisis.
Now is not the time to fight over whose fault it is, but rather to finally and firmly address this matter.
The facts are this:
Americans travel farther on their daily commutes than residents of most other industrialized nations, and much of our country is without mass transit. Automakers must produce more energy-efficient vehicles at affordable prices, however, this will not happen over night.
We need at least two more refineries in our country, and the government should do whatever is necessary to facilitate this process.
Taxing the profits of the oil company giants won't stop anything. Regulating their prices and margins will. We already regulate public utilities, don't we?
We must start drilling in the ANWR region of Alaska, and anywhere else on the land or sea under U.S. control.
The U.S. should cease exporting oil and gas to other nations.
Free Arab nations should be reminded that the blood of our boys and girls is keeping them free, and that we will remain vigilant in seeing that madmen like Sadaam Hussein and Iranian president  Mahmoud Ahmadinejad stay out of nations like Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait, to name a few.
We need to begin wearing out our state and federal legislators on all of these points. If we don't call and write them, they will assume that we have not yet "had enough." Call Sen. Rockefeller (like the president, doesn't he have friends in the oil business?) Call Sen. Byrd. Call your state representatives. Let's reduce gas taxes.
No more excuses. Let's do what is good for common U.S. citizens instead of lobbyists and speculators and the BIG OIL they represent, as well as businesses and foreign nations, whose feelings we don't want to hurt.
Enough is enough.
