Mineral County's movers, shakers and just plain folk are in Charleston today, lobbying state officials as part of the 10th annual Mineral County Day at the state capital.
While the event comes and goes in but two days at the start of the legislative session, months of planning go into organizing Mineral County Day, and prioritizing the list of issues that local officials promote.
It's a true team effort, and this year's planning included active participation by representatives of Mineral County, the city of Keyser, the Mineral County Development Authority, the Chamber of Commerce and many others.
We tip our hat to the county residents who planned today's event, as well as those who took the time to travel to Charleston to attend in person.
Even if they don't return with any firm commitments for funding to address the county's needs, or one of the initiatives being promoted at Mineral County Day, those attending the event nevertheless succeed in raising the county's profile among lawmakers and senior officials in state government.
Mineral County Day doesn't necessarily seek the quick return of a funding commitment for this or that project, but rather makes an investment in the future, forging relationships that promise to pay dividends over the long haul.
Again, thanks to all who helped plan Mineral County Day, and thanks as well to those who trekked to the state capitol to participate. Your efforts are appreciated, and will no doubt bear fruit in promoting the wide range of initiatives that local leaders have set forth in the ongoing campaign to improve our quality of life in Mineral County.
