Readers of the News-Tribune will notice a full-page survey on Page 8B in today's newspaper. The survey was first published in the Friday edition, and will continue to appear through Tuesday.
The readership survey seeks your opinion on a wide variety of issues related to the News-Tribune, from the quality of the news coverage and timeliness of our reports, to the reliability of delivery and the political balance on the editorial page you're now reading. Please take some time to look over the survey and respond.
We at the News-Tribune are working hard to improve the newspaper. From the ladies out front who greet you when you stop by our office on Armstrong Street, to the ad reps who interact with the business community, and the pressmen who toil late into the night printing the newspaper, we have rededicated ourselves to producing a high-quality community newspaper.
That effort is most intense, however, in the newsroom, where the rubber meets the road at any newspaper. And that's where you come in, as the reader.
We need your guidance to help us recognize our shortcomings and work to address them. Are we missing news in the community? Do we cover too much police, or maybe not enough? How about sports? Feature stories? School news?
We are asking you for your opinion because, in essence, you're our bosses. Tell us what we need to do better, and you can be assured, we will diligently focus our efforts in those areas.
As a small-town newspaper, we also take this opportunity to invite you to become engaged in the news-gathering and reporting process. If you have a photo of a local event or ceremony that did not receive coverage, or perhaps a family member who's received an award or other recognition, send us the photo. We'll print it. The Mineral Daily News-Tribune is a community newspaper. As a member of our community, it is your newspaper.
And write letters, like Francine Shanahan does on today's page. She has a gripe with City Hall, and rather than fume about in silence or just let it go, she got involved and challenged city officials to fix a problem that is not only about quality of life, but public safety. We salute Mrs. Shanahan, and encourage other readers to follow her lead.
Send letters or photos to us by email at letters@newstribune.info.
You can mail the survey to the Mineral Daily News Tribune, 24 Armstrong St., P.O. Box 879, Keyser, WV 26726, or just drop it off at our office.
As always, thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for sharing your opinions about the News-Tribune.
