Elsie A. Kane, 101, of 423 Ward Avenue, Keyser, W.Va., died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at Heartland of Keyser Nursing Home.
Born June 25, 1906, in Keyser, she was a daughter of the late Jacob and Annie (Davis) Redman. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Brown Kane, on January 26, 1982; a son, David Kane; two daughters, Elizabeth Redman and Ruth Cox; three sisters, Virginia Lewis, Julia Linton and Dorothy Redman; a brother, Richard Redman; and a stepbrother, Arnold Redman.
“Mother Kane” as she was affectionately known, was a loving homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, singing and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated member of the First Church of God in Christ, Piedmont, W.Va., and was the State Mother of West Virginia for the Churches of God in Christ.
Surviving are one son, Paul N. Kane of Wilmington, N.C.; one daughter, D. Marie Twyman of Keyser, formerly of Piedmont; two sisters, Naomi Marshall of Keyser and Arizona Clifford of Piedmont; 28 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Thursday, March 20, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Jones Street, Piedmont, on Friday, March 21, at 11 a.m. with Bishop Henderson Wheeler officiating. Friends may also call at the church one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
