Paul W. Umstott
Paul Wilson Umstott died on June 19, 2009 at Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia after complications from Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Keyser, WV in 1924, he was the youngest son of Edna Dawson Umstot and Edward Milton Umstot and grew up with seven siblings. He graduated from Keyser High School in 1941 and from Potomac State College in 1943. He was active in 4-H and attended Mount Zion E.U.B. Church just outside Keyser.
He was an Army veteran and Prisoner of War in Germany during World War II. He graduated from West Virginia University in 1947 with a Bachelor's Degree in business administration. He moved to Washington D.C. and worked in accounting and business administration with the United States
Postal Service. His career as accountant and systems payroll analyst for the USPSlead him to
managerial positions at regional headquarters in Ohio, Missouri, California and Washington, DC.
He lived in McLean, VA for 40 years and participated in his church, his community as a Mason,
and outdoor activities such as horseback riding, vegetable gardening, and golf. He will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends for his strong Christian faith and determination.
Surviving him are Carolyn W. Umstott, his beloved wife of 60 years; his daughters, Carolyn Fisher of Bowie, MD and Nancy Umstott of McLean, VA; his son-in-law Steve Fisher; his grandchildren William P. Fisher and Sarah L. Fisher; and his sisters, Mabel Arant of Greenville, S C and Edith Amtower of Keyser, WV.
A memorial service for relatives and friends will be held at 3 pm on June 28, 2009 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd, McLean, VA, 22101.
Memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church for Envisioning Our Future building fund. Internment in Arlington National Cemetary arranged at a future date by Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046.
