75,  of Burlington

Shirley J. Bourne, 75, of Burlington, WV, died Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at her residence.
Born on February 18, 1936 at Richlands, VA, she was a daughter of the late William and Minnie (Dye) Cruey. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Donald L. Bourne on February 8, 2002 and a son Herbert W. Bourne.
Mrs. Bourne was employed as a secretary with the Mineral County Board of Education at the Burlington School for over 30 years. She was a member of the Beaver Run Church of the Brethren, Burlington. A talented and avid musician, she played the guitar and mandolin and was the last surviving member of the Middle Ridge Strings. She played annually at the Burlington Old Fashioned Apple Harvest Festival until 2011 when she was unable to because of health reasons. She actively participated in the Mineral County Senior Olympics each year, enjoyed square dancing and bowled on several different leagues.
Surviving are one son, R. Scott Bourne and fiancée, Debra Jones of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jonathon Bourne, Miranda Bourne and Matthew Bourne and three brothers, Gene, Douglas and Bill Cruey.
Funeral services will be conducted at the Smith Funeral Home, Burlington Chapel, on Sunday, January 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Preston J. Miller officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
Interment will be in the Arnold Cemetery, Junction, WV.
