Mabel Cannon Oss
KEYSER — Mabel Gertrude Cannon Oss, 99, of Selbyville, Del.,, formerly of Keyser, W.Va., died Monday, June 8, 2009, at the Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro, Del.
Born on July 17, 1909, at Keyser, W.Va., she was a daughter of the late Granville W. and Elizabeth (Davidson) Bowman. Twice married, she was preceded in death by both husbands; Douglas A. Cannon in 1935 and Harry E. Oss in 1986. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Allen Bowman.
Mrs. Oss was employed as a secretary with the Clerk of the Mineral County Commission for many years, retiring on a couple of occasions, but eventually was called back to work once again. Even after her last retirement while living in Short Gap, W.Va., with her son, she worked an abbreviated schedule. She was a 1928 graduate of Keyser High School. While living in Keyser, she was a long-time member of the Keyser Church of the Brethren and after moving to Delaware she became a member of St. Matthew's By-The-Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick Island, Del.
Surviving are one son, Granville M. Cannon and his wife Alta (Shay) Cannon of Selbyville; one grandson, Douglas A. Cannon and his wife Sonja (Holsinger) Cannon of Westminster, Md.; a great-grandson, Matthew Allen Cannon of Westminster; and a niece, Regina Bowman of Hammonton, N.J.
Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Tuesday, June 16, 2009, from 1-3 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 3 p.m. with Pastor Dwight Ramsey officiating.
Interment will be in the Meadow Point Cemetery, Keyser.
